The Beauty of Kinbaku
Or everything you always wanted to know about Japanese erotic bondage when you suddenly realized that you didn't speak Japanese

(May 15, 2009)

I received Master "K"'s book a few days ago.

I read the surprisingly long articles with a small dictionary in one hand.

What a comprehensive work!  I was impressed by the detailed study he has done.  I must add that the accuracy of the contents is noteworthy.

It was an unexpected surprise and delight to read about my own personal history, written by an American.

I was moved in the same way as when I read The Chrysanthemum and the Sword (a famous Japanese work on Samurai sexual culture).

Like the secret world of the Samurai, the world of Shibari is often at odds with authority and therefore people's strong interest in this marginal culture flows underground.  Hence, it has not been systematically studied... up until now!

I'd like to talk with Master "K" about all of this in person some day.

Respects,

Miyabi

modern seme-e master

Without question, one of the finest, if not the finest, modern shibari/kinbaku graphic artists working in Japan today is the astonishing Miyabi Kyodo whose hyper-realist, computer generated, erotic art works have taken the styles of classical ukiyo-e and seme-e into the 21st century.  In addition to creating brilliant art work, Myabi Kyodo was also a magazine editor, illustrator and bakushi.  He was also the last student of the legendary Minomura Kou (aka Kita Reiko).
